Misc. Notes

Idle hands and idle mind are dangerous things.

For every mile of road, there are two miles of ditch.

Awareness is permanent within this lifetime. It may be DNA/RNA based, pruned off each generation and passed on through the young.

With meditation comes awareness and a knowing of the truths. These insights come from either realization or educational and then conformation- adoption - through mediation.

Ego is impermanent, and impersonal, imposed by the mad collective thinking. letting go of ego is humility.

We need willingness for many things, but we first need the time free, distraction free space, space to just be. Willingness implies choice; time and space to do, and for the action to become a priority.

Life must be slow enough to see the space between the phrases or between the words. Such is our natural cadence of speaking, thinking, writing.

Psychological Time

Psychological time is a concept put forward in the spiritual literature (Tolle, Brown) as a method of using time in a incorrect way that causes much stress. Free beer tomorrow thinking, at its best.  here:  Psychological time is future thinking that life will be better when X happens, or tomorrow. Real future time need not be thought about much, other than as a schedule. Future time can be used for motivation, until we realize that tomorrow never comes. That is just like going on holiday, looking around and realize that you are there and the place is a dump.

Time has a few other issues. We all have a personal cadence that we learn with, speak with, read with, etc. When we try to cram more in, the cadence must increase, and then we cannot think, or write at that speed. That is the that the well educated cannot write, they do not take the time to form letters. It is that "I am not fast enough" thinking.

Once we step back from the idea that success can only be measured in terms of money, and that real value is in being, and doing good works, all the time issues become less. Volition replaces motivation. We become self driven, free acting, free living with less issues.

We start being enough in ever way. If I am not enough, they can replace me. I am all I have to work with. My time is now, and the future is changed in the Now. I was bothered by nightmares of the past, but without sugar, dense carbohydrates and grains in my diet, these have reduced to infrequent. Those nightmare were reoccurring guilt issues, mainly about high school chemistry, and other educational failed to do as well as other would have liked, but passed. What parrents and wife's do not realize is that it is impossible to do as much work as is assigned at times, when we include all the reading list. We need to do enough to get through in all courses. The smart fast people do well. Us slow/average types, weak in English just get by, but I remember formula for all sorts of stuff, and where to look it up at, Things like Haliday and Resnick.

Tolle is a good read, but remember even a stopped clock is right twice a day. I do not agree with some of his ideas, but it makes one think. Some is definitively correct, like living in the Now is all we have. Ego reduction is certainly worthwhile. Oneness is a motivation trick to provide a motive for good. Eternal is only within this life. Attention can easily be split from thinking, but I typically split it to do a boring physical things and think, not to watch thinking and other things. Oh well, a good read.

Brown provides a process of splitting the awareness from the intellect. Also interesting, but that is not where my issues arise at this time. He also has some odd but likely true ideas, which I have been exploring.

Free Beer Tomorrow

Free beer tomorrow is a British Pub come on slogan for the gullible.  Who would be that gullible? Well there are religions built on like after death. Is that not the same?

Secular concepts have grown, religions are dying, I hope.

Self loathing, thinking not good enough, not smart enough, not willing enough, not energetic enough, is started by parental criticism, and then we build on that as youths, never enough, and competing with our peers. If there are thirty people in class, unless you are the top three, you are not good enough. Religion beats on us more. All this is just abuse on our egos, which are there for our protection, well maybe.

The ego is a construct of the thinking mind. Well we can never be the best at everything, and easily not the at anything, but I is all I have to work with. Even the I cannot stand myself splits me in two, so there is a 50% chance I lose.

Presence

Presence is the state of no thought. How much time do I spend awake, and in the Now, and in a state of no thought? The animal awake state. A few minutes, totaled up throughout the day, between thoughts, perhaps.

Thinking is the primary addiction. Day-dreaming about the future, the past, or some intellectualism problem or process, some non present time, or in a state of distraction with media of some sort. That is not being, it is doing. Ah. Go meditate. On something, or on nothing.

Removing negative core beliefs

Many core beliefs are stored in implied memory and imprinted reactions that we developed as children. As adults, we need to look at these and remove all that do not serve us today. In effect, change our core values, and core beliefs.

Before we can remove a negative core belief, we need to identify it.

http://www.growingaware.com.au/Negative_beliefs_examples.htm

Other food related ones are:
Clean that plate. (may have applied, but if it bothers you, just do not take it.)
Do not waste food. ( Do not cook it to start with.)
Sugar is food. (Carbohydrates are not food in some cultures)
Wheat is food. (bad for up to 50% of the population)
Seed oils are food. (omega 6 balance is out to lunch)
Cravings should be responded to. (they are just feelings)
Hunger is to be fed. (sever hunger yes, but not mild hunger or not cravings)
Breakfast is the most important meal. (market slogan of 1930's)
Eat to satiation. (often promoted concept, but some do not know satiation)
Eat fats. (Paleo concept, a few fats, but calories count up fast.)
Moderation (well perhaps some people can handle it, but not the hyperinsulinemic)
 etc.

Suffering

Micheal Brown says that suffering is caused by the feeling that we can do something about the condition, rather than just acceptance. The now, or present moment is important. The now is the continuity of present moments.

I will extent that to say suffering from cravings is the feeling that I should or can do something to remove the craving, or thinking that I should remove the craving. The craving is a feeling, it does not need to be acted on.

So is it a core belief that is wrong that is causing all these issues? http://lauraschenck.com/?s=core+beliefs

Do I have a core value that says that that I must act on a craving? On on hunger? Perhaps the idea that a craving should be addressed is just wrong. Who has a map of all these mind concepts?

Psychic Change

In AA BB xxvii,

"Once a psychic change has occurred, the very same person who seemed doomed, who had so many problems he despaired of ever solving them, suddenly finds himself easily able to control his desires. "

That is exactly what has happened, but it is not yet enough. Some days are good, others less so. We have so many more methods then they had in the 30, yet god is all that is offered.

When I look back at the path that I have come, It is apparent to me that the program has been the guide, but the details, the big changes, and not found in the OA and AA books. I think I should list some of the big events that have impacted me, and just how these items have effected me.

Gabor Maté: makes the statement that imprinted reaction and implied memory is the way we learn as children. Micheal Brown shows us how to integrate those from the unconscious to the conscious memory. Are those memory errors worth noting or just the process. It is the first time through life, and we do not know the way just as the pinball. Each morning we get shot into the track again. What will the day bring?

In historical time people: enjoyed rest, but had to work (exercise) to get through the day. They craved fat, sugar and salt but had to eat wild foods... according to some professor.

I personally never have craved fat or salt, but sugar, carbohydrates, dairy products, strongly. I know that this is dopamine, serotonin and opioid addiction, insulin storing fat, causing hunger; hyperinsulinemia, and psychological cravings, all of which I must resist.

We have met the enemy and he is us

That was a line from a comic, Pogo, by Walt Kelly. It is true in this program as well. We have met the enemy and he is us.

The misconception theory of a Jesuit, John Powell, stated that many of the idea we have that cause us problems are based on a misconception of the truth, reality, or what we believe. Ya Sure. But really, if it is true, then cognitively, we can correct this issue easily. Well maybe.

This would imply that we need to discover our own authentic self, and come to live within those bounds, what ever that means.  We can integrate out imprinted reaction and implied memories into the conscious mind, from the unconscious mind where they currently reside, and react calmly in present time, rationally to the current situation.

Life is a journey, not a destination. We go through life, like a pinball, but with expectations, plans, that are as often as not, acted on by fores outside of ourselves, that are not foreseeable. We just run the coarse without any real control. Time drives on. We need a belief in something that it will be OK. Be it god, or the oneness concept, or the knowledge that it will all end and does not mater much to anyone outside those we influence.

John Muir -- Most people are on the world, not in it--having no conscious sympathy or relationship to anything about them--undiffused, separate, and rigidly alone like marbles of polished stone, touching but separate.
